Community Design Research
Healthcare Retro-fit/Renovation - Design Research. Project research was geared to understand the impact of the environment within a clinical setting of a waiting room.
Project Overview
Project Team: Gensler (Design and Research), Unity Health Care Brentwood, Louise Russell (Researcher and Designer), Sunbrella Contract, Wray Ward Communications, Artisan, Rand Construction
Client: Unity Heath Care Brentwood
One out of six Washington, D.C. residents receive medical, behavioral, dental, or social services from Unity Health Care, a local network of federally-qualified health centers that promote healthier communities, regardless of ability to pay.
Unity's goal was to use design as a tool to help better serve patients and visitors, enhance the staff experience, strengthen bonds with the Brentwood community, and ultimately improve community health. Russell seeing the potential to explore an opportunity to observe how design, color, pattern, textiles and art could affect outcome brought together global design firm Gensler and fabric company Sunbrella Contract to initiate research on the registration and waiting experience.
